31.10.2013

The preparation stage for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) will be completed within the target time frame, First Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko said at the joint meeting of the two chambers of the parliament on 31 October, BelTA has learnt.

“We will complete the preparation stage in time and embark on the construction of the station. We expect to commission the first generating unit with the total capacity of 1170MW in 2018. The second unit with the same payload will be put into operation in 2019,” Vladimir Semashko said.

“The 2340MW nuclear power plant will help Belarus considerably improve its fuel balance,” the First Vice Premier stressed.

In his words, today the country is highly dependable on Russian natural gas. “The nuclear power plant will reduce this dependency from almost 95% to 66-67%,” Vladimir Semashko said.
