Nuclear station construction site ‘an example for all Belarusian builders’

The construction of homes, social and industrial infrastructure as the preparatory stage of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction is a positive example for all the other Belarusian construction workers. The statement was made by Chairman of the State Control Committee Alexander Yakobson as he visited the construction site of the future nuclear power plant together with participants of the national seminar held in Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast on 7 August to discuss construction and production management, BelTA has learned.

According to Alexander Yakobson, the preparatory stage has been organized and carried out very consistently. The construction site was prepared, residential houses were built in addition to first-line social infrastructure facilities of the town for the nuclear station personnel, motorways and railroads were built, the manufacturing base was built. The project is ready for the main phase, which will begin after the construction companies are issued the relevant licenses.

“Designing and construction were not carried out simultaneously because it is usually more expensive that way. Quality requirements and deadlines have been met for all the facilities we have seen today. It is a perfect example of the fact that our country has the capacity and resources to organize a top-notch construction process. Timely and correct management decisions are the only thing needed for accomplishing such things,” stated the Chairman of the State Control Committee.

Apart from that, the official noted that as part of the nuclear project works are smoothly financed, there are no negative examples that sometimes happen even in national and oblast investment programs when plans are made to build facilities but no money is available later on.

Alexander Yakobson underlined that construction companies, which standards are on par with international ones, take part in the project. Those are Grodnopromstroy, Stroytrest No. 8 (Brest) and Gomelpromstroy. “What we see in Ostrovets, visiting the pioneering base and the main manufacturing base, foundation pits of future power-generating units and infrastructure facilities, stands in drastic contrast to all the negative things we have repeatedly discussed during sessions of the working group on civil engineering industry problems. Here we see the classic approaches that the Belarusian civil engineering industry has always prided itself on,” remarked the official. Alexander Yakobson attributed his close interest in the progress and quality of work at the nuclear power plant construction site to the fact that the State Control Committee had been tasked with monitoring the project by the relevant presidential decree.

Heads of all the major Belarusian construction companies took part in the seminar.
