Mayors of Russian nuclear cities arrive in Belarus

Mayors of Russian cities that have nuclear power plants came to Belarus to discuss cooperation proposals with Ostrovets. Ostrovets’ inclusion into the Association of NPP Locations might be considered on 4 July, BelTA learnt from Chairman of the Volgodonsk City Duma, head of the Fund of the Association of NPP Locations Piotr Gorchanyuk who came to Belarus with a delegation of Russian nuclear cities.

“I was born in Belarus, graduated from Brest Construction Vocational School and left Belarus to build Atommash. Therefore, it was very important for me not only to visit my home country, but also to attend the Independence Day parade and to see joy in the eyes of people who are happy to live in a free, prosperous and very beautiful country,” Piotr Gorchanyuk said.

The delegation of Russian nuclear cities will visit Brest and Ostrovets. “The major goal of our visit to Belarus is to meet with our counterparts – representatives of local self-government bodies, to discuss cooperation prospects between Ostrovets and Russian nuclear cities,” Piotr Gorchanyuk said. In his words, the support for initiatives of various organizations to create and maintain a comfortable social environment in nuclear cities and the vicinity is one of the goals of the Association.

Piotr Gorchanyuk admitted that he does not come to Belarus often, but the transformations that took place in the country are very encouraging. “It is very good that private business is engaged in promoting the country’s prosperity alongside with government bodies. I am glad that Belarus is moving forward and I really hope that the suggestions, projects and experience of the mayors of our nuclear cities will be useful,” he noted.
