Belarusian nuclear station construction on schedule

The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets proceeds on schedule and ahead of schedule in some things. The information was released by Head of the Belarus President Administration Andrei Kobyakov during a working trip to Ostrovets District, Grodno Oblast on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

According to Andrei Kobyakov, the fact that the construction progress is ahead of schedule in some parameters guarantees that the construction project will be finished without delays and on time. The Head of the Belarus President Administration also underlined that at present the construction process uses primarily Belarusian materials: iron reinforcements, cement, broken stone, and gravel. Belarusian construction workers are doing the bulk of the work although the presence of Russian specialists is felt, said Andrei Kobyakov.

During the working trip Andrei Kobyakov visited the nuclear power plant construction information center, the manufacturing base where structures for the future nuclear power plant are made, and the construction site of the first power-generating unit. Andrei Kobyakov also examined the progress in pouring concrete into the foundation of the future shaft of the nuclear reactor. The Head of the Belarus President Administration was also made familiar with the progress in building the future town for energy industry workers by the example of the first residential area and the second one. Present living conditions of construction workers were also examined.

The official praised the proper construction procedures employed at all the sites he had examined. As the head of the working group in charge of dealing with problems in the civil engineering industry Andrei Kobyakov remarked that he had been impressed by the organization of the production of construction structures, the overall construction progress, the development of the necessary manufacturing and construction infrastructure at the nuclear power plant construction site. “It is a colossal Belarusian construction project that will bolster the national energy security. Apart from that, it is a perfect example of how things should be built these days,” said Andrei Kobyakov.

In his opinion, the experience of construction companies, which have been employed to build homes in Ostrovets and installations of the nuclear power plant, is not simply an example to be followed but something that should be copied and put into practice.

At present work is in progress to fulfill operations of the main construction stage. The foundation for the future first power-generating unit is being built. The nuclear power plant in Ostrovets uses the Russian design AES-2006. The first power-generating unit is scheduled to go online in November 2018.
