Belarus almost done with legal matters relating to NPP project

26.06.2013

Belarus is now technically able to advance to the major phase of the NPP construction project, however some legal issues have to be finalized in the near future, Director of the Nuclear Energy Department of the Energy Ministry of the Republic of Belarus Nikolai Grusha has told reporters in Saint Petersburg on 26 June, BelTA has learnt.

“As far as our readiness to construct the nuclear power plant is concerned, the production facilities are almost ready; the preparation phase is almost over. Speaking about the start of the actual construction works, I would like to note that the license might be obtained in the next month. After that the construction documents are to be approved,” Nikolai Grusha said.

“After all these technicalities are resolved, we will be able to launch the actual construction of the nuclear power plant,” he said.

According to Nikolai Grusha, Belarus has no problems with its Russian partners on the NPP project. “There are some technicalities that are dealt with on the regularly basis,” he said.

Speaking about the Atomexpo 2013 international forum that opened in Saint Petersburg on 26 June, Nikolai Grusha noted that Belarus is particularly interested in the treatment of nuclear waste that comes from nuclear power plants and industrial facilities.
